Ellyse Perry was born on November 3, 1990, in Wahroonga, a suburb of Sydney. She attended Beecroft Public School and completed her higher education at Pymble Ladies College. At Pymble, she was the Sports, Athletics, and Cricket Captain. Perry is known for playing various sports, such as Tennis, Athletics, Touch Football, and Golf. She is also studying Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. Perry started her international cricket career in July 2007, becoming the youngest Australian to play international cricket. Just a month after being selected, she joined Australia’s women’s team.
Perry publicly announced her relationship with Matt Toomua on October 24, 2013. Less than a year later, they got engaged on August 20, 2014, and married on December 20, 2015.

Ellyse Perry’s Domestic Cricket Career
In the 2007–08 Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL), Perry debuted for New South Wales in a match against South Australia. She took 2 wickets for 29 runs in her ten overs, caught a crucial catch, and helped her team win by 7 wickets. Her first WNCL wicket was the in-form Karen Rolton.
In her second WNCL match, Perry scored 12 runs and took 3 wickets for 21 runs, leading her team to a 25-run victory. Although she didn’t take any wickets in her next two matches, she made an impact in the fifth match by scoring 37 runs and taking 2 wickets for 10 runs, leading her team to a 66-run win.
She went wicketless in the penultimate match, giving away 51 runs and was left out of the final match. Despite this, Perry ended her debut season for New South Wales with 66 runs at an average of 13.20 and 9 wickets at an average of 24.00 in seven matches.
New South Wales was awarded the trophy as they topped the points table after the finals were washed out.
Women’s Premier League (WPL)
Ellyse Perry was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for ₹1.7 crore in the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) season in 2023.
In the 2024 season, Perry won the Orange Cap and received a prize of ₹5 lakh. She scored 347 runs in nine games, averaging 69.40 and hitting two half-centuries.
Women’s Big Bash League Career
Perry became the first player and the captain of Sydney Sixers in the inaugural season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). She led her team to the playoffs despite losing their first six matches.
Ellyse Perry’s International Cricket Career
Perry made her Women’s One-Day International (WODI) debut at 16 against New Zealand, making her the youngest player to represent Australia in cricket. In her first match, she took 2 wickets for 37 runs from eight overs. Perry has scored over 3,000 runs and is the third female cricket player to take 150 WODI wickets.
At 17, Perry made her test debut against England in 2008, becoming the youngest Australian to play test cricket. In that match, she scored 27 runs and took 3 wickets. So far, she has scored 624 runs and taken 31 wickets in her test career, becoming the fourth woman to score two consecutive Ashes Test centuries, following Betty Wilson, Enid Bakewell, and Claire Taylor.
Perry made her Women’s T20 International (WT20I) debut in 2008 against England, scoring 25 runs and taking 4 wickets. She became the only player to score 1,000 runs and take 100 wickets in men’s and women’s T20Is, playing over 100 WT20I matches.
