Arshdeep Singh Stats: Bowling, Batting in T20Is & ODIs
Arshdeep Singh, a young left-arm fast bowler from Punjab, first made a name for himself by winning the U19 World Cup in 2018. Although he played only two matches in the tournament and took three wickets, his potential stood out, marking him as a prospect for the Indian team.
Later, in 2018, Arshdeep made his List A debut for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and achieved his IPL dream when Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) bought him for 20 lakhs. He had a memorable IPL debut against Rajasthan Royals, taking Jos Buttler’s and Ajinkya Rahane’s key wickets. His left-arm pace and bowling variety quickly made him a top performer for Punjab Kings.
Arshdeep’s performance in the IPL has been impressive, especially in 2020. He played a crucial role in the Punjab Kings’ comeback in the second half of the tournament, taking 9 wickets in 8 matches and showcasing his skills in the death overs under KL Rahul’s captaincy. Although he initially struggled with pace accuracy, training with star bowler Mohammed Shami and guidance from coaches like Anil Kumble and Charl Langeveldt helped him improve significantly.
After his consistent IPL performances in July 2022, Arshdeep made his India debut against England, taking two wickets in his first T20I. With Jasprit Bumrah injured, Arshdeep stepped up in the 2022 T20 World Cup and became India’s leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets.
He made his ODI debut against New Zealand in November 2022 but struggled in that series, going wicketless and expensive. Despite this, his IPL 2023 season saw him take 17 wickets, although his expensive economy rate of 9.70 raised concerns about his death-over bowling.
After being dropped from the ODI team, Arshdeep played for Kent in the County Championship. He wasn’t selected for India’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad, but he brought India glory by helping the men’s cricket team win gold at the Asian Games, taking four wickets at an economy of 7.
Post World Cup, Arshdeep returned to the ODI team and was named Player of the Series in a series against South Africa, taking 10 wickets in three matches, including a five-wicket haul. He became the first Indian pacer to take a fifer against South Africa in ODIs.
Thanks to his consistent performances in T20s, Arshdeep has earned another call-up for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Where he again proved himself. Arshdeep Singh has played 8 T20 international matches in the T20 World Cup 2024, taking 17 wickets with a best bowling figure of 4/9. He boasts an impressive bowling average of 10.58, reflecting his ability to take wickets efficiently.
