Mohammed Shami Ruled Out of IPL 2024 After Successful Ankle Surgery

Mohammed Shami Undergoes Successful Achilles Surgery

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has announced that he underwent a successful heel operation on his Achilles tendon. Shami shared the news on his Twitter account on February 26, 2024, posting a picture of himself in a hospital bed and writing, “Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet”.

Shami’s surgery comes as a blow to his IPL team, the Gujarat Titans, as he was ruled out of the 2024 tournament earlier this month due to a left ankle injury. The 33-year-old is a key part of the Indian bowling attack and was expected to play a leading role for the Titans in their title defense.

It is unclear how long Shami will be out of action, but he will likely miss the entire IPL season. The tournament is scheduled to start on March 22nd. Due to the General Election in India, this season will occur in two phases. The first phase of IPL 2024 will run until April 7th, 2024. The schedule for the second phase will be announced shortly after the election dates are finalized.

Shami’s absence is a major setback for the Gujarat Titans, but the team will be hoping that he can make a full recovery and be back in action for the upcoming international season.
