Shahid Afridi Joins Star Ambassadors for T20 World Cup 2024
The T20I World Cup 2024 is set to be a spectacular event, not just for the cricketing action but also for its impressive lineup of brand ambassadors. This year, the tournament will be represented by four iconic figures: Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, Usain Bolt, and Shahid Afridi. These ambassadors bring a blend of cricketing excellence and global star power, enhancing the tournament’s appeal.

Reflecting on his new role, Shahid Afridi shared his excitement about being part of the upcoming T20 World Cup. “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is an event that is very close to my heart. From being Player of the Tournament in the inaugural edition to lifting the trophy in 2009, some of my favorite career highlights have come from competing on this stage,” said Afridi. He also noted anticipated India vs Pakistan match on June 9 in New York as “one of the great rivalries in sport.”
Claire Furlong, ICC’s General Manager of Marketing and Communications, welcomed Afridi, highlighting his significant contributions to past tournaments. “Shahid competed in six ICC Men’s T20 World Cups, two of which as captain, and delivered a Player of the Match performance when winning the trophy in 2009. So, who better to join our all-star Ambassador team?” said Furlong.
Yuvraj Singh is celebrated for his explosive batting and memorable performances in T20 World Cups, especially his six sixes in an over against England in 2007. Chris Gayle, known as the “Universe Boss,” has a reputation for his power-hitting and numerous T20 records. Adding a unique twist, Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man, brings his charisma and global appeal to the cricketing arena. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup begins on June 1, with co-hosts USA taking on Canada at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
