Kevin Pietersen Suggests Virat Kohli Should Move to Delhi Capitals to Win IPL Trophy

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has sparked a debate about Virat Kohli’s future with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), suggesting that Kohli might need to switch teams to win an Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy.

Even though Kohli had another great season, scoring over 700 runs and topping the IPL 2024 run-scorers chart, he still hasn’t won an IPL title. RCB’s season ended disappointingly with a loss to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator match on Wednesday.

Kevin Pietersen believes Kohli might need to change teams to finally win the IPL. He compared Kohli’s situation to football stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, who moved clubs to win trophies, and suggested that Kohli should join Delhi Capitals.

“I have said it before and I will say it again, the greats of the game in other sports, have left teams to go and seek glory somewhere else. When he has tried and tried so hard, won the Orange Cap yet again, and done so much yet again and the franchise fails again, I understand the brand of the team and the commercial value he brings to the team, but Virat Kohli deserves a trophy. He deserves to play in a team that could help him to get that trophy,” Pietersen told Star Sports.

Pietersen also mentioned that his home team, Delhi Capitals, could be the right choice for Kohli next season. “I think it should be Delhi. Delhi is the place where Virat needs to go. Virat can go away, and stay at home most of the time, I know he has a home in Delhi. He has a young family. He can spend more time there. He is a Delhi boy. Why can’t he go back? Delhi is as desperate as Bengaluru.” Said the former England batter.

I think it’s about time that Virat thought long and hard. Beckham left, Ronaldo left, Messi left, Harry Kane just left Spurs and went to Bayern Munich,” he further added.

RCB had a great comeback this season to reach the playoffs after a poor start, but they fell short in the knockout stages. This has been a recurring pattern, with RCB not making it to the finals in four of the last five seasons despite strong performances during the league stage.

Virat Kohli has often said he is committed to RCB, appreciating the loyalty and trust the franchise has shown him since the IPL started. He is the only player to have stayed with the same team for all 17 seasons of the IPL, showing his dedication to RCB despite not winning a trophy yet.

The question remains whether Kohli will think about moving to a new team to win the elusive IPL title or continue trying to succeed with RCB.
