Namibia Names Squad for T20 World Cup 2024

Namibia ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Squad

Namibia has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the USA and West Indies from June 2 to 29. All-rounder Gerhard Erasmus will lead the team, with JJ Smit named as his deputy.

Familiar Faces and Exciting Newcomers

The squad features a strong core of experienced players who played a key role in Namibia’s dominant qualifying campaign. Twelve players from that successful squad have retained their spots, including key performers like David Wiese, the big-hitting all-rounder, and spinner Bernard Scholtz.

However, there are also some exciting new faces in the mix. Young pacers Dylan Leicher, Ruben Trumpelmann, and Jack Brassell have been rewarded for their impressive performances in the recent U-19 World Cup for their inclusion in the senior squad.

Surprises and Omissions

One notable surprise is the exclusion of all-rounder Nicol Loftie-Eaton, who had a stellar run with the bat earlier this year, smashing a blistering 33-ball century in a T20 match. He, along with players like Pikky Ya France and Shawn Fouche, missed out on selection for the main tournament.

Namibia is placed in Group B for the World Cup, alongside defending champions Namibia and 2021 winners Australia. They will also face Oman and Scotland in the group stage. With a blend of experience and promising young talent, Namibia is determined to make a strong showing on the global stage.
